Review The Benedetto Players/ The Guild Players

Four superb players are showcased in this Classic American Guitar Show concert. Jack Wilkins opens with stunning Joe Pass- inspired solo performances of “Autumn in New York” and Johnny Mandel’s “Emily”, played on his Bob Benedetto guitar. He is joined by chopmeister Jimmy Bruno for a swinging rendition of Cole Porter’s “Love for Sale” and a lively version of Wilkins’, “For Baden”. Bruno also shines in the solo spot with his Pass-ion take on “Satin Doll” along with a Bach inspired interpretation of “All the Things You Are” performed on his Benedetto 7-string with a low B.
John Pisano performs a lovely rendition of “More Than You Know” with his wife, vocalist Jeanne Pisano, and offers a virtuosic solo turn on his own harmonically rich ballad, “Amanhecer”. He then joins with fellow Guild player Randy Johnston for a swinging version of Denzil Best’s bop anthem, “Wee” before Johnston reveals his great command with chordal melodies on a solo rendition of “These Foolish Things”. All four great guitarists gather onstage for a rousing finale on Johnny Smith’s “Walk Don’t Run”
