The New York City Classical Guitar Society gave a well deserved tribute to Gene Bertoncini on May 3 2008 at the Engelman Recital Hall at Baruch Arts Center. Some of the great performers included Fred Hand, Dennis Koster, Paul Meyers, and Gene. Many players gave quotes and paid homage. This is my quote to Gene:



Gene Bertoncini

I’m very pleased to be able to say Gene has been a friend of mine for as long as I can remember. To have recorded 3 times together and perform concerts, clubs, cruises, festivals and who knows what else, is a lasting gift for me. Gene has always been a great artist and has continued to improve his playing since I’ve first met him. It’s astonishing how he is able to create the most magnificent and musical nylon string arrangements I’ve ever heard. I can remember many, many times shaking my head in admiration. Two seconds later, he picks up his DeAquisto arch top and picks with the best.
More importantly is how I and everyone feel about this wonderful person. Always gracious and also very, very funny. His jokes and sense of humor are legendary.
No one deserves a tribute more than my friend Gene Bertoncini.
